Sterling Power has always been a pioneer in battery-to-battery (B2B) charging technology, and now the company has unveiled its new series of B2B chargers, available in models ranging from 40 to 120 amps of charging capacity.
The new generation of chargers are:
- Smaller
- Lighter
- Quieter
- Exceptionally efficient, with efficiency levels exceeding 96%
Additionally, Sterling has refined the lithium charging profile and developed a reverse charging function, allowing the B2B charger to operate in the opposite direction — charging the starter battery from the service battery when required.
Modern boats consume significant amounts of energy, and depending on the onboard electrical system, a battery-to-battery charger may be essential.
For example, when you need to charge both the service battery and the bow thruster battery, or when your lithium battery bank requires higher charging voltages.
In such cases, the B2B charger is installed between the starter and lithium batteries. It processes the alternator’s output, ensuring that the connected lithium battery is charged optimally and safely.
A voltage increase at the device’s input (above 13.5 volts) signals the charger to begin transferring power to the second battery.
