Our client reached out to us because the Volvo D6 engines were not running smoothly — the turbos didn’t seem to operate evenly, and the boost pressure fluctuated multiple times.
We suspected several possible issues, but with engines running around 400 hours, it’s difficult to predict anything in advance. One of our technicians flew out earlier and removed the turbos for inspection.
This allowed us to make a more accurate diagnosis. The turbos were BorgWarner models, which were professionally tested by the official Hungarian distributor. Unfortunately, these models cannot be rebuilt, so new units had to be purchased.
At our recommendation, the client also replaced the turbo pressure regulators (Bosch) and requested a complete major service — including belts, rollers, tensioners, oils, filters, impellers, and anodes. The generators (Mitsubishi) were also overhauled, as the salty, humid air had caused significant oxidation.
A small but important note from experience: the original roller tensioner does not have a spacer, but the new OEM version does. Don’t forget to install it!
Sometimes, the engine compartment was quite tight, but the work was successfully completed.
Thank you for your trust!
